NATO faces long-term challenge in deterring Russian aggression
The head of Estonian intelligence, Kaupo Rosin, emphasizes that NATO will need to deter Russia for the next 10 to 20 years to prevent its aggression towards the West.
The head of Estonia's foreign intelligence service, Kaupo Rosin, warns that NATO must focus on deterring Russia for the next 10 to 20 years. The goal is to prevent a potential military attack on the West.
Investments in defence crucial for NATO
Rosin stresses that the West must take defence issues seriously and increase investments. "NATO and national military plans must be credible, realistic, and truthful. They need to be supported by actual resources, including troop presence, additional units, and the right amount of ammunition," Rosin stated in an interview with Reuters.
According to Rosin, Russia is not ready to negotiate ending the invasion of Ukraine. He predicts that Moscow will try to limit NATO's activity, weaken its infrastructure, and reduce military presence in countries on the eastern flank. "Then we will be able to deter Russia," assessed the head of Estonian intelligence.
