Zakynthos, the third largest island in the Ionian Sea, is one of the most famous Greek islands. Tourists from all over the world, including Canadians, enjoy vacationing there.

More police on Zakynthos

Unfortunately, issues related to violence and drugs have also reached this paradise. Greek Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrisochoidis has decided to intervene. He visited the island to address these problems and met with the local police and authorities.

"The tourism industry on Zakynthos is of fundamental importance for the island's prosperity, development, and wealth. Safety is crucial for its further growth," said the minister.

The head of the ministry announced the deployment of additional police forces to the island, particularly to maintain order and increase safety in challenging areas, including the tourist resort of Laganas.

Problems on the Greek island

The sale of drugs, assaults, robberies, stabbings, and violent clashes are unfortunately quite common in the tourist areas of the island, reported the eKathimerini portal.

Recently, 12 people aged 17-23 were arrested in connection with a brutal bar fight involving a knife.
