Many reports provided by Russian state media or Kremlin officials are likely untrue. They could be elements of the Russian Federation's information war.
A few days ago, it was announced that the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, will become the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This is not the only change in critical positions within international organizations. EU leaders also agreed that Ursula von der Leyen would remain at the head of the European Commission, and former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas would become the EU’s top diplomat.
Former Russian President and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev commented on these selections on Telegram. He called them the “wonderful trio.”
Describing Rutte, Medvedev called him a “remarkable guy.” “In a relatively short time, this moderate figure, whom I once met at summits, has transformed into a fervent Russophobe and fervent Atlantist. We can’t guess what substances from Amsterdam’s cafes caused such a dramatic change in his mood,” he wrote.
He stated that Rutte “fiercely hates” Russia, is a “proponent of tightening sanctions,” and expects him to follow the path of “the classics of paranoid Atlantism.”
Medvedev mocks von der Leyen and Kallas
Medvedev called Ursula von der Leyen a “Belgian-German political grandma.” He claimed she is “masochistically devoted to her foreign masters” and ready to “manifest her love for the gerontological playboys from Washington.” “She continuously spits out malicious nonsense about Russia, not choosing any expression,” he wrote.
Criticizing Kaja Kallas, Medvedev mocked that she was a “Prime Minister of a superpower, the mighty Estonia.” He stated that she combines the most essential traits of a European politician: “nuclear Russophobia and an endless lust for profit.”
“I wish the newly appointed ones all the best. Which - translated from diplomatic - means maximum failure and terrible problems when using their high powers! We will assist you in this in every possible way!” he wrote.
