Separating art from the artist is a complex task. In certain cases, one can question whether it should even be attempted (P. Diddy, Roman Polanski, Johnny Depp) due to the many moral dilemmas it raises. Cancel culture is thriving, yet many problematic artists still maintain their careers.
Matty Healy of The 1975 exemplifies this precarious balance. Fans of the band frequently face the ethical question: do they want to support this musician financially? Healy is known for controversial behaviour and making inappropriate remarks, often involving racist and sexist "jokes" that target specific individuals. The musician mocked the appearance and heritage of rapper Ice Spice, who went on to feature on "Karma" by Taylor Swift, Healy's ex-partner.
But that's not all. During a festival in Kuala Lumpur, Matty openly criticized the country's laws, which discriminate against LGBTQ+ individuals, by kissing bassist Ross McDonald on stage. The event's regulations prohibited discussing political topics on stage, such as alcohol consumption, smoking, and profanity. Healy disregarded these rules, leading to the halt of the 1975 concert, the remainder of the event being cancelled, and the band being banned from Malaysia.
Matty Healy sucked a fan's thumb after eating a "bloody" steak
Matty Healy—often regarded as one of the most controversial figures in show business—is an intriguing topic for a PowerPoint party presentation. The musician has a history of kissing fans without seeking consent or verifying their age (eventually, he started asking for ID), but this time, he took it to another level.
A young woman shared on TikTok that Matty Healy sucked her thumb during a concert. Later, it only dawned on her that he had just eaten a piece of raw meat.
The incident occurred last year during the "Still... At Their Very Best" tour but has resurfaced thanks to a post on X. Internet users are horrified and disgusted by the behaviour of The 1975's frontman.
"I would die if I had to be in the same room as Matty Healy, but this? I'm planning my funeral." "Personally, I would amputate my thumb." "My worst nightmare." "Taylor, did you kiss this guy?" - they write in the comments.
