The largest donors supporting the Democrats' presidential campaign have withheld about $120 million. This is a highly notable example of the negative consequences of President Joe Biden's poor performance in the debate at the end of June, reports "New York Times".

The Super PAC Committee - Future Forward supports Joe Biden in the presidential campaign. The most important donors have withheld approximately $120 million in contributions to the committee as long as President Biden remains in the presidential race, writes "NYT," citing two independent sources.

Future Forward declined to comment on the matter. Their advisor admitted only that the committee expects the donors who withheld donations to return when there is no doubt about who will remain in the race for the U.S. presidency, indicated the newspaper.

Sources "NYT" did not want to reveal who specifically withdrew the previously promised cheques.

Biden's advisors want to convince him to step down

The newspaper indicates that some of Biden's advisors are discussing how to convince the president to withdraw from the race, while his committee has begun conducting polls to see how Vice President Kamala Harris would fare against former President Donald Trump. The number of Democrats calling for Biden to resign is growing daily, wrote "NYT".

According to the newspaper, Biden's campaign faces a tough July in terms of fundraising, as major donors question the U.S. president's ability to win the November elections.
