Lukashenko's secretive talks spark intrigue over Western ties
On Saturday, the Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko stated that he participated in "interesting negotiations with representatives from Western countries." He did not disclose the content of the talks or who participated in them. He only claimed that his interlocutors allegedly envy his regime.
Many of the reports given by Russian media or authorities are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information warfare conducted by the Russian Federation.
"Difficult but interesting negotiations"
The self-proclaimed ruler of the Republic of Belarus said during the agricultural festival "Dazhynki-2024" in the city of Volozhin that he had a "non-public but very difficult day" on Friday.
- Very difficult but interesting negotiations with representatives of Western countries. And speaking with them, I realized how carefully they observe us, how meticulously they examine our mistakes and successes - stated the dictator.
He did not disclose the content of the negotiations or the participants. Lukashenko only claimed that his interlocutors allegedly "envy his regime."
Interestingly, Lukashenko's press service remains silent on the matter of whom this meeting might have taken place with. The only statement from that day concerns a meeting with... polar researchers.
Was a U.S. representative in Belarus?
According to Belsat's information, on October 15, Kevin Doyle, a representative from the U.S. Department of State, visited Belarus. In Minsk, he held meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, there were no official statements at this meeting.
As the television station points out, Doyle and the U.S. ambassador Peter Kaufman "held a meeting with representatives of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which the fate of political prisoners was discussed." However, the negotiations did not produce a breakthrough.
