As suggested by "Wysokie Obcasy," If we are purchasing an apartment, we should pay attention to whether there is greenery outside the window. On the other hand, if we are homeowners, it's worth planting trees, shrubs, or vines to provide much-needed shade during high temperatures outside.
Other effective ways exist to cool our apartments without air conditioning.
One of the simplest is to cover windows, balconies, and terraces—especially on the southern side. Another good solution is to provide external sun protection.
How to cool an apartment during a heatwave? Proven methods
External blinds provide good protection, advises Angelika Mazurkiewicz, an architect from AM2 Design Studio, in an interview with WO. However, it is important not to close them completely to allow free airflow.
Shutters, awnings, and UV films play similar roles. The latter's advantage is certainly the price. The expert's methods are intended to lower room temperatures by even 10°C.
The architect also suggests that thermal curtains made of thick material furnish the apartment in light colours, which disperse light and do not absorb heat as much as dark colours.
In an interview with "WO," Mazurkiewicz also advised limiting the use of electrical devices during the hottest days, as they generate additional heat.
