Jake Paul triumphs over Tyson: A new era in boxing?
Legendary Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight world champion, lost in a matchup against Jake Paul, a popular YouTuber who has been pursuing a boxing career for several years. The fight, which took place on Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, ended with a unanimous decision in favour of Paul, who is 31 years younger. Tyson's trainer, Rafael Cordeiro, discussed the preparations, hopes, and emotions surrounding this match.
Mike Tyson trained intensively for the past seven months to face Paul. Trainer Cordeiro, summarizing their efforts, emphasized his protégé's commitment and determination.
We worked for seven months until now. I believed we could win. Mike never asked to stop the fight (...) We are proud of Mike, his determination and dedication. He is a champion, inspiring many even outside the ring. The most important thing is that he returns home to his loved ones – said Cordeiro in a conversation with the media after the match.
Despite Tyson putting his whole heart into the preparations, he was unable to match his younger rival's energy in the ring.
The fight lasted eight rounds, but with each passing round, the condition of 58-year-old "Iron Mike" faded. The fight statistics were relentless – Tyson threw 97 punches, landing only 18, while Paul landed 78 punches, dominating most of the fight.
Jake Paul: "I didn't want to hurt him"
After the fight, Jake Paul admitted that he deliberately avoided throwing more serious punches to avoid risking unnecessary injuries to Tyson.
I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn't want to hurt someone who didn't need to be hurt – Paul said.
The stadium audience and online viewers received the fight with mixed feelings. On one hand, they appreciated the legendary boxer's presence in the ring; on the other, the lack of spectacle disappointed many fans. Toward the end of the fight, the phrase "he’s 58" became popular on platform X, emphasizing Tyson's age and his difficulties competing with a younger opponent.
End of career or a new beginning?
For Tyson, this was his first professional fight in nearly two decades, which clearly affected his performance in the ring. Many fans wonder whether this fight symbolized the end of the "Beast's" career or perhaps another stage in the life of a boxer who has inspired millions worldwide for years.
One thing is certain – Mike Tyson remains an icon of boxing and a symbol of unwavering will to fight, despite his time in the ring seemingly coming to an end.
