The situation between Israel and Lebanon remains tense. According to the "Wall Street Journal," the Israeli military is increasingly preparing for a "possible ground invasion" of its northern neighbour. The newspaper reports that the attack "could begin as early as this week."

The "WSJ" writes that Israeli special forces have conducted reconnaissance missions in southern Lebanon in recent weeks. Agents were checking information on Hezbollah tunnels, which are said to be located near the border with Israel.

A ground invasion of southern Lebanon by Israel is unavoidable, and special forces operations are typically a key element in the lead-up to such actions, according to former Israeli officer Amir Avivi in an interview with the "Wall Street Journal."

In his view, the only question remains how far into Lebanon the Israeli troops will go and how long they will stay there.

The "Wall Street Journal" notes that Israel's intentions are not being tempered despite "strong pressure from the White House," which fears an escalation of the conflict in the region.

The newspaper reminds us that the government in Tel Aviv is also under pressure from within Israel itself, with voices calling for the creation of a "buffer zone" on the border with Lebanon. This would be to increase the security of northern Israeli residents, who are most exposed to Hezbollah attacks.

Attack on Lebanon: Terrorist leader killed

On Friday afternoon, Israeli forces carried out an airstrike on downtown Beirut. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in the attack. Israel announced that it had killed nearly all the top commanders of the organization and eliminated a large part of its combat potential.

Defense Minister Yoav Galant emphasized on Monday that although eliminating Nasrallah is a crucial step, it is not the final objective, and Israel will utilize every resource at its disposal.
