Many of us do this almost reflexively, reaching for water at night or right after waking up. But have you ever wondered what happens to the water after it stands for several hours in an open space? Experts warn that this seemingly harmless habit may be detrimental to your health.

Water in a glass by the bed - it's a mistake

The morning glass of water not only hydrates the body but also wakes it up after a whole night. Therefore, it's worth ensuring that it is of the highest quality.

Research conducted at Johns Hopkins University and opinions from experts like Dr. Marc Leavey from Mercy Medical Center indicate that water that stands overnight in an open glass is exposed to dust, contaminants, and even insects. Dust contains microscopic particles of dirt, chemicals, and bacteria that settle on the surface of the water.

Dr. Leavey also notes that water in warm rooms becomes an ideal environment for bacteria and fungi. Although changes in appearance or taste may be invisible, microorganisms can cause stomach problems and other health issues.

In summary, water left out all night may contain:

- Pollens that can irritate those with allergies,

- Bacteria and moulds developing from contact with air.

How to avoid the risk? simple solutions

If it's hard for you to give up having water by your side at night, you can use a few simple tricks:

  1. Use a bottle with a cap – preferably made of glass or high-quality plastic.
  2. Cover the glass – a small plate or lid will reduce the risk of dust and insects getting in.

The morning water ritual can be enhanced with ingredients that support the body. Instead of drinking water that sat all night, prepare a fresh glass in the morning with added:

  • A slice of lemon – to boost metabolism,
  • A tablespoon of honey – for natural immune support,
  • A pinch of Himalayan salt – for mineral replenishment.
