Kitchen experiments don't always go as planned. If the soup you've made is too greasy, you don't need to throw it out or manually remove the excess layer. Find out how you can save your dish in a simple way.

The unpleasant layer and characteristic "eyes" are often caused by overly fatty meat. They can also indicate good quality, as we see with broth made from a farm-raised chicken. Of course, when "eyes" appear on the surface, they aren't necessarily a bad thing—fat separation is normal during the cooking process. However, some people just don't like the greasy sheen.
Many of our soups are cooked with a meat component, which means we can encounter too much fat in any of them. To reduce some calories from our dish, we don't have to make a purely veggie soup. Here's how to handle this with minimal effort, without losing all the flavour.
A kitchen trick for excess fat in soup
Most of us instinctively reach for a spoon to manually remove excess fat. However, there's a simpler way. On her Instagram an influencer shared a clever trick to get rid of excess fat in soup. This online user tackles the problem using only a ladle and ice cubes.
What do we need to do?
1. First, fill the ladle with ice cubes.
2. Then, touch the surface of the soup with it, but ensure the ice doesn't get into the soup—just submerge the ladle. Stir gently.
3. After 30 seconds of moving in circles, you'll easily remove the fat that clings to the ladle.
4. If necessary, repeat the process to remove additional fat to your liking.
