High temperatures can negatively impact our physical and mental well-being, prompting us to seek ways to protect ourselves from the heat. The indoor temperature can still be uncomfortable despite closing windows and using various shades. While air conditioning would be the best solution, not everyone has the means or permission to install it. In these situations, we have a practical tip for you.
Air conditioning not an option?
When the heat is unbearable, a natural reaction is to want an air conditioner. Some people invest in these units, installing them in their homes, but many cannot afford it.
Installing an air conditioner in a condo requires formal permissions from building management, and the investment itself is costly. Purchasing the unit is just the beginning – there are ongoing expenses such as higher electricity bills and maintenance costs to prevent the proliferation of bacteria in the air conditioner. When all expenses are tallied, the total cost is significant. If you can't afford such an expense, we have an excellent solution for you.
How to make a homemade air conditioner
On hot days, you can make a homemade air conditioner yourself. You don't need to be a handyman to do this. All you need is a regular fan and two bowls – a larger one and a smaller one. Pour cold water into the larger bowl and fill the smaller one with ice cubes. Place the smaller bowl inside the larger one and set this setup in front of the fan. When you turn on the fan, the air passing through this arrangement will become pleasantly cool. The effect will be similar to that of an air conditioner.
The resulting air vortex will be much cooler than if we simply turned on the fan. However, remember to regularly change the water and replenish the melted ice cubes.
