Google's Gemini to revolutionize travel plans with AI integration

Google plans to use artificial intelligence to revolutionize how you organize your trips. If their announcements come true, preparing a travel itinerary to another city or country will take seconds instead of hours. A key role will be played by Gemini.

Many people already use ChatGPT or Gemini to plan their travel. However, these tools mainly analyze publicly available information. If you plan a trip to London, an AI chatbot can suggest several popular attractions and plan an optimal sightseeing route. However, it isn't easy to talk about a genuinely personalized plan in such a case.

Google announces that travel planning with artificial intelligence will soon reach a new level. The company intends to use its resources, such as the Gemini chatbot, data from Google Maps, and information from Gmail, to offer users more personalized travel plans.

How will travel planning with Gemini look?

During the Google I/O 2024 conference, it was announced that the Gemini assistant will be able to plan a trip in a very personalized way. For example, a set of commands was provided, including a request to plan a family weekend in Miami, considering that the son loves art and the husband wants to try fresh seafood. Additionally, the assistant was asked to find information about the flight and hotel in Gmail. After receiving such a set of commands, Gemini will perform the following tasks:

  • Analyze emails to find information about flight times and the location of the booked hotel;
  • Connect with Google Maps to find recommended museums and restaurants;
  • Search the web for other attractions worth including in the sightseeing plan;
  • Plan a route considering weather conditions, distances, and estimated travel times between each attraction.

Within a few seconds, the user will receive a ready-made travel plan, and at any time, they can ask the chatbot to make changes.

Who will be able to use the travel planning feature?

Unfortunately, the new travel planning feature will only be available to users of the paid Gemini Advanced plan. This package, which includes 2,000 GiB (2,048 GB) of cloud storage, costs approximately $32.41 CAD a month, but Google offers a 2-month free trial period.

The travel planner is expected to be available in Gemini Advanced in the coming months. Users can only hope that Google manages to release it before the end of the summer vacation season.
