Germany proposes military spending reform in EU budget rules

During the Munich Security Conference, Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that Germany is ready to reform the Stability and Growth Pact. This reform would entail excluding defence investments exceeding NATO's target of 2% of GDP from budgetary discipline. Scholz noted that "Germany is ready for this."

The Chancellor assured that Germany will support Ukraine for as long as necessary. He pointed out that, in order to secure adequate resources for the future, it is essential to ease budgetary discipline.

Scholz also criticized the earlier speech by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, accusing him of interfering in Germany's internal affairs. "We do not accept this," he said.

Scholz emphasized that the stakes are the peace and security of the Old Continent, so Europe must take action. Germany, as one of the key players on the continent, is ready to take steps towards increasing defence investments, aiming to strengthen security in the region.
