Freshen up: Why your pillowcase needs changing every few days
It seems that nothing could be simpler than putting a pillowcase on a pillow. However, many people forget that this activity affects our skin, among other things. How often should you change your pillowcase? A significant portion of the population does it too infrequently.

Sleep hygiene is a crucial part of our lives. To allow the body to rest, we air out the room, ensure the right temperature, and change our bedding. Changing the pillowcase is also an action that should be performed regularly. Unfortunately, many people make the mistake of changing it too infrequently.
How often should you change your pillowcase? More often than you think
The pillowcase material comes into contact with our hair and facial skin. It's also affected by leftover cosmetics embedded in the material, our sweat, germs present on the pillowcase, pollutants, dirt, and dust. For these reasons, the replacement of this part of the bedding should be much more frequent than we might assume.
So how often should you reach for a clean pillowcase? We should make changes every two to three days. This frequency should be followed particularly by people with oily skin, prone to blemishes, and those who struggle with quickly greasing hair and excessive hair loss.
It is also important not to wash pillowcases with strong detergents. It is better to use detergents with natural ingredients that are safe for delicate skin and hair.
Not just frequency
Another important issue is the material from which our pillowcases are made. For other parts of the bedding, cotton is usually sufficient. However, when it comes to the material that will touch our face and hair, something gentler is needed. Cotton satin is often recommended. A good choice is also breathable, cool silk, which is excellent for those with delicate hair.
