Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of the legendary Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain, and singer Courtney Love, along with her husband, professional skateboarder Riley Hawk, have become parents. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk.
The joyful news was announced on September 28, 2024, when Frances shared the information on social media, revealing that the boy was born on September 17. In an emotional post, she wrote:
Welcome to the world most beautiful son. We love you more than anything.
Touching photos of the newborn and warm wishes from friends
Along with the birth announcement, Frances published a series of black-and-white photos, including images of the newborn holding her hand and another where Frances's husband, Riley Hawk, embraces his son. Another photo shows the baby wrapped in a blanket with closed eyes. The touching moment was further highlighted by accompanying music — the song "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" by John Lennon, which Frances included in her post.
The couple received congratulations from close friends and friends from the show-business world. Tony Hawk, Riley's father and skateboarding legend, humorously wrote: "My favourite grandchild!" Among the commentators was also Zelda Williams, daughter of the late actor Robin Williams, who added an enthusiastic post: "Ahhhh! Congratulations!!!!" Harper Grohl, daughter of Dave Grohl, Kurt's former bandmate from Nirvana, expressed her emotions with emojis – a crying face and a heart.
The love story of Frances and Riley
The love story of Frances and Riley dates back to 2022, when Frances returned to Instagram after a year-long break, posting photos with Riley. In one of the posts, she shared pictures of the couple spending Christmas by the tree and spending holidays with the Hawk family. Frances wrote at the time:
I took a year long break from posting on Instagram which was exceptionally good for my mental, emotional & spiritual health. 2021 brought me more into the present moment than I've ever been, which I'm deeply grateful for.
In October 2023, the couple got married in an intimate Victorian-style ceremony officiated by Michael Stipe, the lead singer of R.E.M. and Frances's godfather. This is Frances's second marriage – she was previously married to musician Isaiah Silva. The couple separated in 2016 after less than two years of marriage.
