The prosecution has formally charged former President of Argentina Alberto Fernandez with causing severe injuries to his ex-wife, former First Lady Fabiola Yanez. Fernandez denies the allegations, claiming he "never hit Fabiola [nor] any woman."

Fabiola Yanez, who currently resides in Spain with her son, filed a complaint against Fernandez last week, accusing him of domestic violence. Photos have surfaced in the media showing Yanez with a black eye and other injuries.

Initially, Fernandez was accused of causing minor injuries to his ex-wife, but after reviewing her testimony, the prosecution decided to expand the indictment. According to the newspaper "Clarin," the indictment also includes charges of abuse of power and making threats against Yanez.

Ex-wife spoke about physical and psychological violence

The woman's testimony was given at the Argentine consulate in Madrid. For almost four hours, she precisely described situations in which Fernandez allegedly committed both physical and psychological violence against her. Among the charges is an accusation that in 2016, Fernandez forced her to have an abortion. Several incidents of physical aggression that occurred in later years were also mentioned.

Alberto Fernandez, who served as President of Argentina from 2019 to 2023, gave an interview this week to the Spanish newspaper "El Pais." He admitted that during frequent arguments with Yanez, there could have been verbal violence but denied that he committed physical aggression against her.

He maintains that Yanez falsely accused him, suggesting that "someone encouraged her to do so for other purposes." - I’m being accused of something I haven’t done. I didn’t hit Fabiola. I’ve never hit a woman - claims Fernandez.
