The media reported a fire that broke out in the famous Palace of Versailles building near Paris. The fire was extinguished, but the facility had to be evacuated.

The authorities of the Palace of Versailles reported a fire in the suburbs of Paris on Tuesday. The fire was quickly brought under control, the palace spokesperson explained. There are no reports of injuries.

Meanwhile, videos have emerged online showing smoke rising above the facility.

Fire at Versailles. Renovation work was underway

According to the French authorities, the fire broke out during the renovation work. Visitors were evacuated during the incident but were later allowed to return to the building.

Palace authorities confirmed that no one was injured and no collections were damaged. However, measures will be taken to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the fire.

The Palace of Versailles, built in the 17th century, was the primary residence of the French kings before the French Revolution in 1789. The palace and its gardens are one of the major attractions in Paris, visited annually by around 8 million tourists. Equestrian events will occur within the Versailles Palace complex during the upcoming Olympic Games.
