John Amos was an American legend, with roles in productions such as "Coming to America," "Die Hard 2," and "Roots." He also appeared in "Uncut Gems" on Netflix. Many fans consider him their television father. "He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor. My father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life. He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero. Thank you for your prayers and support at this time," said the actor's son, Kelly Christopher Amos.
Controversies surrounding the actor's death - some family members have doubts
Family and close friends of John Amos have expressed concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death. The leading figures in the controversy are the actor's daughter, Shannon Amos, and his son, Kelly Christopher "K.C." Amos, who is accused of withholding critical information from the rest of the family.
According to a statement posted on Facebook by the actor's daughter and goddaughter, Amy Goudy, some family members only learned of Amos's death 45 days earlier through the media, which raised suspicions. The statement suggested that K.C. did not inform the family and implied that the quick cremation of the actor might have been intended to prevent any investigation into the cause of death.
Amos's longtime spokesperson, Belinda Foster told "People" that the allegations are false. According to her, the actor's son and Foster herself cared for Amos until the very end and collaborated with him. She revealed that the delay in announcing his death was at the actor's request. "At the time of his death, John was concerned that Shannon might turn his death and interment into a circus as she had done with other aspects of his life," said the spokesperson.
A document obtained by "People" reveals that John Amos's death occurred on August 21 in California. The cause was heart failure. His body was cremated nine days later, and his son, K.C. Amos, was responsible for reporting the death and retaining the right to the ashes.
The siblings had a history of conflict regarding their father. The sister accused the brother of abusing their father, even organizing online fundraisers for his care. These, at John Amos's request, were removed. Today, the woman's accusations persist. According to Goudy and Shannon, the actor was isolated, manipulated, and possibly coerced into changing his will. The actor's spokesperson insists there is no evidence of wrongdoing before his death. Police had already investigated these claims and found nothing suspicious. It was emphasized that family relations had been strained for a long time.
At present, according to police information, the investigation into the alleged abuse of Amos has not been reopened.
