In theory, a fresh vegetable salad is a healthy dinner choice. However, dietitians and nutrition specialists emphasize that it is not always the optimal meal. One expert strongly advises against eating salads in the afternoon. Why? The reasoning is clear.

Dr. Maximilian Schubert from Mayrlife Medical Health Resort revealed that salad is his proven idea for a light dinner due to its low-calorie content.

After some time, however, he concluded that the body doesn't digest it very well, especially in the evening.

Raw foods, like salads, contain a lot of fibre, which is beneficial during the day and supports a healthy microbiome. However, in the evening, this fibre can be harder to digest and may strain the digestive system. This can lead to bloating and discomfort, which could negatively affect your sleep quality - explained Dr. Maximilian Schubert in an interview with Vogue.

The expert decided to analyze the impact of food on sleep quality. He then concluded that in the afternoon hours, it is better to avoid raw foods such as vegetables, meat, or fish. He also advised against eating nuts.

Schubert also stated that fruits should be avoided in the afternoon and evening. This is because they contain high amounts of fructose, which can cause bloating and stomach pain.

Expert advice: Do not eat these foods after 4 pm

Salads, fruits, nuts, and meat are generally healthy products. However, the expert emphasized that the timing of their consumption is crucial.

Raw food should therefore not be eaten after 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. at the latest. this applies to everyone, regardless of your bedtime: From late afternoon onwards, you don't have the digestive power to digest these foods properly - he explained.
