- An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was registered in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) provided the information. The epicentre was located at a depth of 10 kilometres, 170 kilometres northeast of Kashgar, home to over 500,000 people. There is currently no information on potential victims or damage.
- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and provincial premiers spoke on Wednesday about threats from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to impose a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico related to issues such as illegal immigration and drugs from China. "The Prime Minister emphasized that economic relations with Canada are one of the biggest competitive advantages for the U.S. in the context of global strategic uncertainty," stated a press release from the Prime Minister's office.
