Discover soba cha: The healthful tea with a nutty twist

Buckwheat tea is not as popular as black or green tea, and many people are still unaware of it. The first association is often with the well-known buckwheat groats, but these products have nothing in common.

Soba Cha, or buckwheat tea, is made from roasted seeds of the Tartary buckwheat plant. It is a slightly different species from the one primarily cultivated for flour, groats, or flakes. Tartary buckwheat is mainly grown in Asia. Residents of China, Japan, Taiwan, and Mongolia have long appreciated the beneficial properties of the plant and the taste of the tea prepared from it.

You can also drink it in the evening

Soba Cha is often called buckwheat tea, but this is not entirely accurate. The term "tea" traditionally refers to products made from the Camellia sinensis plant, like green, red, white, or black tea. However, to simplify things, many infusions, including herbal and fruit ones, are also called teas. Since buckwheat tea contains no caffeine, it can be consumed at any time of the day. It's really worth trying, as it offers many benefits.

It has many health benefits

Buckwheat tea is rich in vitamins, primarily A, C, E, and B-group vitamins. Additionally, it contains magnesium, potassium, zinc, and iron. Thanks to these nutrients, buckwheat tea has cholesterol-lowering properties. It also positively affects blood pressure regulation, supporting proper heart function. Regular consumption of buckwheat tea can speed up metabolism, improve intestinal peristalsis, and help remove accumulated toxins. Therefore, the infusion can support weight loss, especially since buckwheat tea can also suppress appetite, particularly for sweets. The mineral content ensures that buckwheat tea positively affects the nervous system, helping to calm you down and making it easier to fall asleep.

Surprising taste

Buckwheat is usually associated with a rather bitter and astringent taste. However, in the case of Soba Cha tea, this does not hold true. The taste, along with its health properties, is one of its significant assets. It has a delicate flavour with a nutty-chocolate undertone that should appeal to fans of cocoa and other lightly sweetened drinks.

How to brew buckwheat tea

Pour hot water over a teaspoon of the tea and let it brew for 3 to 5 minutes. It's worth adjusting the brewing time to find the best flavour for you. Then it's best to strain the seeds. Buckwheat tea can be enjoyed on its own or with additions such as honey, lemon, ginger, cinnamon, or fruit syrup.
