In such situations, it’s worth knowing practical ways to cool down, especially when the hotel room's air conditioning isn’t working or is missing altogether. These methods will allow you to quickly lower the room temperature and feel better.

Ways to beat the heat: What to do when the air conditioning isn’t working?

An air conditioning failure isn’t the end of the world. There are a few simple tricks to lower the temperature in a hotel room. For example, in the evening, hang a damp towel in the window—make sure to wring it well so it doesn’t drip. The moisture from the towel will make the room feel more relaxed.

If you have a fan, place a bowl of ice cubes before it. This will make the air entering the room cooler. Another way to reduce the perceived heat is to move away all heat sources, such as charging electronic devices. It’s essential to do this before going to bed.

How to fall asleep faster when there’s no air conditioning?

In tropical climates, high temperatures can also be troublesome at night. However, there are methods to cool down before sleep, even when the air conditioning isn’t working. Cooling down your pillow is a great idea – put it in the fridge for the day, preferably securing it with a plastic bag so it doesn’t absorb moisture. After taking it out, it will be pleasantly cool.

Do the same with your socks – cool them or dampen them with cold water. Cooling your feet triggers an automatic response in the body: it improves circulation, making it easier to fall asleep. A cool bath or soaking your feet in cold water before bed is also practical.
