The incident occurred on the night of Friday to Saturday (October 25/26) at 6:15 PM Eastern Time in Frodsham, northwestern England. On Saturday, a video initially showed Amesbury pointing at a man lying on the sidewalk and shouting: "Yes I am [the MP], yes I am, and you won't threaten the MP ever again, will you?"

Mike Amesbury issued a statement expressing he felt "threatened on the street after going out with friends" and contacted the Cheshire County police himself to report the incident. However, the circumstances of the event remain unclear.

A breakthrough occurred on Sunday afternoon (October 27) when "The Mail on Sunday" published street surveillance footage, shedding new light on the matter. It shows the MP getting into a heated argument with a man and then unexpectedly punching him in the face. When the victim falls, Amesbury delivers six more blows. Three random passersby stop any further aggression.

A video of this incident is circulating online. It was published on Sky News's profile on platform X. It shows a close-up of the MP punching the victim. Moments later, bystanders intervene.
