BMW elevates adventure with the new R 1300 GS motorcycle
For many motorcyclists, BMW is synonymous with the GS series. The renowned model has earned recognition not only as a trusted companion for typical asphalt road trips but also as a machine capable of tackling the world's most challenging terrains. This is especially true for the new R 1300 GS Adventure version, which stands out at first glance.

The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure visually differs significantly from its standard counterpart. The distinction is mainly due to the shape of the larger, 30-litre fuel tank made of aluminum. This tank is exposed, emphasizing the form-follows-function design philosophy. Ergonomically refined, it allows for easy refuelling and features hooks for attaching a tank bag or saddlebags, all of which BMW offers in their showrooms.
One of the most crucial elements in expedition motorcycles is the suspension. Here, the Germans have integrated the most advanced solutions. The electronically controlled setup, called Dynamic Suspension Adjustment, lets you select the type of surface and automatically adjusts based on the load. Additionally, there is an option to lower the motorcycle by about 2.5 cm at low speeds and when stopping, making it easier to ride and control this large expedition machine.
Multiple driving modes are also available, with four standard modes. The Adventure model includes the "enduro" option at no extra charge, providing optimal parameters for off-road riding.
A key new feature is the Automated Shift Assistant, an optional automated gearbox. While the shift lever is retained for manual gear selection, a fully automatic mode is available for everyday city riding or highway cruising. This transmission option will also be available in the standard R 1300 GS model starting in 2025.
BMW has taken a page from its automotive division by significantly enhancing all LED lighting. This includes the turn signals on the hand guards and a front light that substantially improves nighttime visibility. The motorcycle also comes with standard radars, offering features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warnings, and collision warnings for both the front and rear.
Adequate panniers are essential for an expedition motorcycle. The central pannier has a capacity of 38 litres and can carry up to 8 kg. The side panniers hold 37 litres and can carry up to 10 kg. Optional extensions can add 10 litres each.
The engine is the most powerful boxer fitted in an adventure-class motorcycle. The two-cylinder unit has a capacity of 1300 cm³, generating a maximum of 145 HP at 7750 RPM and 110 lb-ft at 6500 RPM. The curb weight of the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is 269 kg.
The motorcycle is available in several colour options. The standard version features a red upper part. There's also the Triple Black version in black and shades of grey. For fans of blue and classic BMW colours, there's the GS Trophy, while the premium option is the dark green Option 719 Karakorum version.
