Bluesky, founded in 2019 by Jack Dorsey, is gaining traction among users leaving X. In the last 90 days, Bluesky's user numbers have doubled, attracting, among others, Taylor Swift fans. The singer personally endorsed Kamala Harris and encouraged others to do so online. Meanwhile, Elon Musk, who has led X since 2022, has strongly supported Donald Trump's campaign.
Some X users are discouraged by the rules on X. While the platform still generates significant reach, it is criticized for allowing the spread of misinformation and radical content. Some media outlets, such as the UK's "The Guardian" and Spain's "La Vanguardia," have recently announced they will no longer publish posts on X. They have deemed it a "toxic media platform."
Musk effect? Mass exodus from X to another platform
Despite the outflow of users from X—apparent especially in recent days and weeks—Elon Musk's service still maintains many daily visits. According to Similarweb.com, it has about 151 million daily, while Bluesky has only 2.8 million. However, Bluesky is experiencing a growth rate of 30 percent, attracting fan communities like Taylor Swift's.
"It's official — 1000000 people have joined Bluesky in just the last day!!! welcome and thank you for being here!" was announced on Sunday on the Bluesky messenger profile, also on the competing X portal.
Another messenger is also growing in strength—Threads, owned by Meta, Facebook's parent company. The company reported on Thursday that Threads users have increased by over 15 million since early November, reaching 290 million.
