On Thursday morning, Eastern Time, Blue Origin, owned by Jeff Bezos, conducted a successful launch of the New Glenn rocket. This is an important step in the competition with SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk.

The New Glenn rocket launched at 1:00 a.m. Eastern Time from the spaceport at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Ariane Cornell, a representative of Blue Origin, confirmed that the rocket safely reached orbit. This is a significant step in the development of private companies in space exploration.

New opportunities for Blue Origin

The New Glenn, which stands at 98 metres, is designed to carry payloads of up to 45,000 kilograms to low Earth orbit. The launch was initially planned for Monday; however, one of the fuel lines froze, and the flight was postponed.

On board the rocket is a prototype of the Blue Ring, a modern spacecraft that Blue Origin intends to offer to the Pentagon and commercial clients. The company aims for this vehicle to perform missions related to national security and satellite servicing.

Plans for the future

Blue Origin has announced that in the future, New Glenn will serve missions for NASA, telecommunications companies, and the U.S. government. Currently, work is underway on several rockets of this type.
