Avoid these common clothing mistakes for your next flight

What should you wear on a plane? This question bothers many people. Some prioritize comfort, while others must choose an outfit suitable for their circumstances after landing. One thing is sure - there are things you absolutely should not wear on a plane.

Christine Negroni, author of "The Crash Detectives," a book about the most mysterious aviation disasters in the world, revealed that there is something women particularly often wear without knowing the consequences.

Do not wear these on a plane

Her analysis shows that leggings are not a good idea for air travel. By examining what passengers wore on planes involved in crashes, she found evidence that leggings can cause severe scars if the plane catches fire.

The American writer explained that it’s about the material leggings are made of, which can lead to disaster in contact with fire. "You might have to escape through a cabin fire or there could be a separate fire on the ground once you leave the aircraft. Everyone is wearing yoga pants on planes now, but I avoid all artificial fibres because they are more likely to burn and stick to you if there is a fire," she said in an interview with Sun Online Travel. "I’d advise wearing cotton clothes or anything made of natural fibres."

Forget about shorts on the plane

Flight attendants with many years of experience often warn against wearing shorts on planes because the seats are not cleaned regularly. They also recommend not wearing pyjamas - unless they are provided by the airline on long-haul flights.

"Instead, wear loose-fitting, comfortable pants with an elastic band," said Susan Fogwell, a former flight attendant, in an interview with "Travel & Leisure."
