In recent years, there has been increasing talk about the plague of Asian ladybugs. In the fall of 2024, they are visible again, seeking shelter for the winter. Unfortunately, contact with them can have very unpleasant consequences for us. Here's what you can do to deal with them quickly.

Homemade spray for Asian ladybugs

Asian ladybugs, much like other insects, cannot tolerate certain scents. They are susceptible to citrus scents, which most people find extremely pleasant. If we want to deter them, it's worth using this against them.

To prepare a homemade spray for Asian ladybugs, you need about 20 drops of lemon or orange essential oil, 100 millilitres of water, and a spray bottle. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and spray the areas where ladybugs might appear. Pay particular attention to door and window frames.

Zero waste method for Asian ladybugs

There are many more ways to deal with an invasion of Asian ladybugs once and for all. Plus, we can use what usually ends up in the waste bin.

Lemon or orange peels can effectively deter these insects. Simply wrap them in a tissue and tie them to prevent them from falling out. The resulting sachet can be hung by the window or placed on the windowsill. Remember to replace the peels with fresh ones periodically.

Interestingly, you can also similarly use bay leaves or cloves, as they also repel Asian ladybugs. Place them in a linen sachet and then attach it to the window frame. This will prevent these insects from approaching.

Are Asian ladybugs dangerous?

Although Asian ladybugs do not threaten humans, contact with them can lead to unpleasant consequences. These insects can bite us, causing various allergic reactions, such as redness or itching.
