The actor, known from the film Call Me by Your Name, openly discussed the scandal that erupted in 2021 during a conversation with Tom Arnold. "It's crazy. I'm not going to lie; now I even like the allegations of cannibalism," he said in the podcast.
Hammer emphasized how much publicity the controversial charges brought him. "The accusations are the thing that make so much noise. Like, what makes more noise? ‘Armie Hammer is a cannibal’ or ‘Armie Hammer might not be a cannibal? The cannibal thing makes more noise and you don’t get an apology tour in this world," he added.
The actor admitted that the crisis led to a significant change in his life. "Like, someone says something about you, everyone believes it, and they move on with their lives to whatever it is they’re focused on, because they’ve got their own lives," he said.
What was Hammer accused of?
Allegations against Hammer surfaced after two women, Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison, claimed he sent them messages with cannibalistic fantasies. The case was spotlighted by the documentary series "House of Hammer." The actor also faced rape allegations, but the Los Angeles prosecutor ultimately did not press charges due to insufficient evidence.
In an Instagram video, Hammer discussed the mission of his podcast: "I want to have long form, interesting conversations with people who have tools or skills or have acquired wisdom or even just no random sh*t that I don’t know. I want to learn, and that’s very much is still the sort of core idea of what it is that we’re trying to do with this podcast, but it’s also a journal of sorts."
Comeback after the fall
The actor recently drew media attention by selling his car due to a lack of funds for fuel. Earlier, in the "Painful Lessons" podcast, he called the cannibalism allegations "absurd." "People called me a cannibal, and everyone believed them (...) How am I going to be a cannibal? It was bizarre," he confessed.
In July, in a conversation with Bill Maher on the "Club Random" podcast, Hammer admitted that the fall of his career was liberating for him. "Even in the discrepancies, even in the whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I'm now at a place in my life where I'm grateful for every single bit of it," he stated.
