Analysts' suspicions were confirmed – Apple unveiled two versions of the iPad Air at the "Let Loose" event. The devices differ mainly in screen size, with the most notable addition being the iPad Air, featuring a 13-inch (approximately 33 cm) diagonal screen. This article provides details on the specifications and prices of these innovative tablets.

It's been over three years since we last saw an update to the iPad Air, but the wait is finally over. Apple has rewarded our patience by introducing not one but two new models: a more compact version with an 11-inch (about 28 cm) screen and a larger variant boasting a 13-inch display.

The difference in size impacts not just the look but also various aspects of device functionality.

What do the new iPad Air look like?

The new iPad Air comes in four captivating colors:

  • blue,
  • purple,
  • "midnight starlight",
  • "space gray".
The smaller model retains the dimensions of its predecessor, measuring 9.74 x 7.02 x 0.24 inches (around 25 x 18 x 0.61 cm). The version with the 13-inch diagonal measures 11.04 x 8.46 x 0.24 inches (about 28 x 21.5 x 0.61 cm).

As predicted, the front camera has been relocated horizontally to the longer side. This adjustment enhances ease of use, especially when the tablet is paired with the Magic Keyboard or similar accessories.

Technical specifications of the iPad Air 5

Focusing on the front camera, Apple has incorporated an ultra-wide 12 MP lens with an ƒ/2.4 aperture, supporting Smart HDR 4 and capable of 1080p video recording at 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps.

Both models feature an LED-backlit LCD screen known as Liquid Retina, which supports the wider P3 colour gamut and True Tone technology. They also have an oleophobic coating to reduce fingerprint marks. The smaller model's screen resolution is 2360 by 1640 pixels at 264 pixels per inch, while the larger model boasts a resolution of 2732 by 2048 pixels at 264 pixels per inch.

The tablets run on the Apple Silicon M2 processor, shared with the MacBook Air and Pro, ensuring top-notch performance.
Additionally, both sizes come equipped with a rear wide-angle 12 MP camera with 5x digital zoom, rounding off with Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.

What will be the prices of the iPad Air?

The new iPad Air offers four storage capacities, ranging from 128 GB to 1 TB. The Wi-Fi-only models are priced as follows:

  • iPad Air 11 inches 128 GB – CAD 1,040,
  • iPad Air 11 inches 256 GB – CAD 1,210,
  • iPad Air 11 inches 512 GB – CAD 1,555,
  • iPad Air 11 inches 1 TB – CAD 1,900,
  • iPad Air 13 inches 128 GB – CAD 1,380,
  • iPad Air 13 inches 256 GB – CAD 1,555,
  • iPad Air 13 inches 512 GB – CAD 1,900,
  • iPad Air 13 inches 1 TB – CAD 2,245.
For an additional CAD 275, models with 5G cellular connectivity (eSIM only) are available.
The new iPad Airs can be pre-ordered starting May 7, with the initial shipments scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, Eastern Time.
