Frattocchie is a village located 12 miles from Rome. In ancient times, Via Appia, a road connecting the capital of Italy with Capua, ran through here. Historians regard the route as one of the most outstanding achievements of the ancient world, with a vast economic, military, and cultural impact on Roman society.
Remnants of Via Appia have survived to modern times. Portions of the famous road have been preserved and adapted for sightseeing. One segment of the ancient route runs through a surprising place—under a McDonald's restaurant in Frattocchie.
"Skeleton" under the floor in McDonald's
Customers visiting the venue are treated to a rather eerie attraction. Beneath the glass floor stretches a view of ancient excavations, which contain three human skeletons made of silicone. Previously, actual human remains were found there in 2014, when construction on the McDonald's was underway. The builders removed the skeletons and replaced them with synthetic counterparts.
The remains on the construction site date from the 2nd and 3rd century AD. For archaeologists, they provided valuable research material on ancient burials. Experts, in cooperation with McDonald's, did enormous work to make the underground area visible from ground level. Due to this unique attraction, the venue gained iconic status.

Tourists visiting the McDonald's in Frattocchie often record their reactions to the skeletons. This was also the case with an American named Kassidy, whose video from her visit to the venue went viral on TikTok.
- Folks, I am now in McDonald's in Rome, - Kassidy began in the recording. She then directed the camera at the glass floor beneath which ancient underground areas stretched. - This is beneath me. It extends through the interior of the building. Get ready. Here’s the body. This is a skeleton in McDonald's.
