According to "Fakt," at the Web Summit in Lisbon, Vasco Pedro, the CEO of Unbabel, announced the launch of the translation tool Widn.AI. The company is also developing the Tower model, which enables precise translations without human involvement.

The company claims that thanks to this advanced AI technology, translators may become unnecessary within three years. Widn.AI can independently translate into 32 languages.

Will translators become unnecessary?

Pedro admitted that although humans currently have the advantage in handling complex cases, this gap is narrowing. Unbabel plans to raise $20–50 million to develop Widn.AI, which will help maintain competitiveness in a market dominated by Google Translate and DeepL.

According to Pedro, automation is expected to increase the volume of translated content, although revenue per word may decrease.
