Although a zipper may seem simple in construction and use, it often gets damaged. This can be due to overuse or improper handling of clothing. One of the most common problems is fabric getting caught in the zipper. This can lead to it bending or completely tearing out.

How to handle this? Of course, you can replace the entire piece, but unfortunately, this generates high costs and often isn't worth it. It's better to use home remedies that our grandmothers have found and used for years.

What to do when the zipper gets stuck?

Don't panic—it's easily manageable. The first step is to check if the zipper is "blocked" by fabric. If so, try gently prying the fabric with something like tweezers and moving it up and down. The annoying obstacle should be released after a while, and the zipper will work like before.

If your favourite jacket, sweatshirt, or pants have been unworn for one or two seasons and are a bit old, the zipper may not "slide" as smoothly as it used to. In that case, you should help its operation by applying petroleum jelly or wax to the plastic (or metal) parts.

The zipper came off the clothing? You can fix it in minutes

Sometimes, when dressing in a hurry, we pull the zipper too hard, and it pops out of the mechanism. Some people think that in such a situation, only a seamstress or tailor can help. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can fix such a zipper yourself. All you need is a fork, which can save your favourite jacket or sweatshirt. Just place the zipper on its edge and slide the tape into the correct position.

How to do it: Place the zipper on the middle part of the fork so that it slightly widens its structure. Then, carefully slide the zipper tape into the zipper holes so that both parts of the zipper go into the holes. The task is quite simple because the zipper is held securely on the fork.

Below you'll find a video from one of the TikTok users, with a detailed explanation.

This simple, inexpensive, and quick method might allow you to save your favourite jacket, sweatshirt, pants, dress, or bedding. Don't ignore minor damages—if you notice any problems with the zipper, act early. It's better to replace this part in time than to sew in a new zipper.
