Unleash beauty with potato water: From kitchen to skincare

People close to the "zero waste" concept likely already know that potato water is excellent fertilizer for flowers. You might also be aware that it can remove limescale from a kettle or residue from a sink. However, these are not the only possible uses for the water from these popular vegetables. It turns out that potato cooking water can work wonders in home skin and hair care.

Potato broth contains many valuable elements that can be useful not only for reuse in the kitchen. After cooling, you can create two valuable cosmetic products from it. Our grandmothers knew about this. It's worth trying them out before spending more money at the store.

Potato water rich in valuable elements

Despite appearances, potatoes are not just a filling addition to dinner. Often underestimated, they contain significant amounts of potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and iron, not to mention vitamins. These nutrients partially transfer into the water during the boiling of potatoes. It's worthwhile to use them in cosmetics.

Facial toner from potato water

Once the water has cooled, simply pour it into a bottle and use it to cleanse your facial skin. Apply a small amount to a cotton pad and you're ready to go. Potato toner has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, brightens discolourations, and moisturizes the skin. You can use it daily.

Hair rinse

You might be surprised at how beneficial potato water can be for brunettes experiencing their first grey hairs. Using the rinse twice a week darkens hair colour, making silver strands less noticeable. The nutrients in potatoes strengthen and moisturize the hair strands.

How to use potato rinse?

Use the cooled potato water to rinse your hair right after washing it with shampoo. If you have trouble detangling curls, use the rinse after applying conditioner.

The easiest method is to perform the treatment over a bathtub, sink, or shower. Tilt your head forward and slowly pour the mixture over your hair. Pat with a towel and leave it for about 30 minutes. After that time, there's no need to rinse your hair with clean water. You can immediately dry it with a hairdryer.

What else can you use potato water for?

Returning to kitchen applications, you can use potato water for cooking soup. This way, you won't have to thicken it separately. It also serves as a warming drink that helps fight off colds. Additionally, it aids in the battle against kidney stones.
