Ukrainian optimism wanes amid concerns of economic turmoil
In a recurring study conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, it is becoming increasingly evident that Ukrainians have a negative outlook on the future of their country. Notably, there has been a significant decrease in the number of people who believe that Ukraine will be a prosperous country, part of the European Union, within the next 10 years.
In the survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology at the end of 2022, 88 per cent of respondents believed that within 10 years, Ukraine would be a prosperous country, part of the European Union.
As analyzed now by "Rzeczpospolita," the percentage of these people is gradually declining. By 2023, this belief had fallen to 73 per cent, and in the latest survey conducted in December 2024, it stands at 57 per cent.
The moods of Ukrainians are increasingly changing
Respondents were also asked whether they believe that within this time frame Ukraine will struggle with an economy devastated by wartime actions. In 2022, only 5 per cent of those surveyed expressed such concern, but two years later, this figure has increased to 28 per cent.
Respondents also shared their opinions on whether Ukraine will gradually overcome adversity and move towards a cohesive society expressing various political views. In this regard, the percentage of people who think so dropped from December 2023 to December 2024, from 69 to 53 per cent.
However, the number of people who believe that adversities will accumulate and that there may be a split in the Ukrainian nation has risen, from 25 to 33 per cent.
