Ukrainian drones breach Russian defences, ignite fuel depot
Ukrainian drones have once again broken through Russian air defence systems to reach their targets. This time, they struck an ammunition depot in the Rostov region and a fuel depot in the Oryol region.
On Sunday, Ukrainian drones attacked a large fuel depot in Russia's Oryol region, resulting in a fire, according to reports from Reuters, citing Russian regional authorities.
Explosions in Russia: Drones reached their targets
The governor of the Oryol region, Andrei Klychkov, wrote on Telegram that a fire occurred at a fuel depot in the village of Stalnoy Kon, but it has since been extinguished.
According to this source, Russian forces shot down 20 drones that were targeting "fuel and energy infrastructure facilities."
The independent Russian channel Astra on Telegram published a video reportedly showing an explosion at the fuel depot.
The Ukrainian army previously reported that on December 14, it attacked a terminal in Stalnoy Kon with drones, causing a massive fire.
Russian Telegram channels also published a video showing the moment of the ammunition depot detonation near Novocherkassk in Russia's Rostov region.
This depot likely belongs to the 150th Motorized Rifle Division of the Russian Armed Forces, which is conducting an offensive towards Kurakhove.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its air defence system allegedly shot down 42 drones overnight across five regions.
Mass attacks on Ukraine
A few days ago, Russia launched massive attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Thursday in Brussels that his country has requested 19 additional air defence systems to protect Ukraine's power grid. He added that otherwise, Ukraine could lose four or five gigawatts of electricity due to Russian attacks.
