Ukraine claims major blow with sinking of Russian submarine in Sevastopol

Ukrainian forces have sunk the Russian submarine "Rostov-on-Don" at the military port of Sevastopol and destroyed the S-400 Triumph missile complex in occupied Crimea, according to the General Staff of Ukraine's report on Saturday.

"According to confirmed information from yesterday (Friday), rocket forces, in cooperation with Ukrainian navy units, significantly damaged four launchers of the Triumph air defence system," the staff announced on Telegram.

Additionally, a submarine of the Russian Federation's Black Sea Fleet, "Rostov-on-Don," was successfully hit while in the port of Sevastopol. As a result of the hit, the submarine sank on the spot – it was stated.

The General Staff explained that the B-237 submarine "Rostov-on-Don" (Kilo class in NATO classification) is one of four submarines equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles.

The unit was commissioned on December 26, 2014. On September 13, 2023, a Ukrainian missile attack significantly damaged the submarine, which is estimated to be worth $300 million.

"The destruction of the submarine 'Rostov-on-Don' once again proves that there is no safe place for the Russian fleet in Ukraine's territorial waters of the Black Sea," stated the General Staff of Ukraine.
