Trump's tough test: Can more arms end Ukraine conflict?
Volodymyr Petraniuk, the director of a theatre in Kyiv, believes that Donald Trump will not be able to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. He suggests that the American president should provide more weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces. This, according to him, is the only way to realistically influence the end of the conflict.
On Monday (January 20th), Donald Trump will become the President of the United States. One of the Republican politician's promises was the swift end to the war between Ukraine and Russia.
Many Ukrainians are skeptical of Trump's promise. They believe that a quick resolution to the conflict is not possible. Even those who had hopes for the new U.S. president claim that the only way to quickly end the war is to provide Ukraine with a large amount of weapons.
Volodymyr Petraniuk, director of the Mirror Theatre in Kyiv, expressed his wish for Donald Trump to bring an end to the war but acknowledged that such an outcome is highly unlikely. He stated that increased support, such as additional weapons and heavy equipment, would be beneficial. With more resources, there might be a chance to overcome Putin's army, he added, concluding with a hopeful plea for divine assistance.
The war between Russia and Ukraine will be one of Donald Trump's biggest challenges as he begins his term today. He will certainly be held accountable for the public declarations he made during the election campaign.
I want everybody to stop dying. They’re dying. Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done in 24 hours - said Donald Trump in May 2023, adding that he aims to resolve the conflict swiftly.
The Kremlin has already responded to these announcements, stating there is no possibility of a quick end to the war, unless Russian conditions (including the handover of eastern territories of Ukraine to Russia) are met. These conditions are unacceptable to Ukraine and the coalition of Western countries.
