In a post on platform X, Weintraub conveyed that on January 31, she received a letter signed by Trump informing her that "you are hereby removed as a member of the Federal Election Commission, effective immediately."

Weintraub, a member of the Democratic Party, wrote "There’s a legal way to replace FEC commissioners – this isn’t it." "I’ve been lucky to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That’s not changing any time soon," she added.

Confusion with the election commission

The commission employs over 300 people and is headed by six commissioners. Weintraub has been an FEC commissioner since 2002. The president appoints commissioners, who the Senate must confirm.

According to the law, no more than three commissioners can come from the same party, and at least four must vote to make an official commission decision.
