Trump selects Rubio as secretary of state, shifts focus to China
Donald Trump is poised to appoint Marco Rubio as the new U.S. Secretary of State. The head of diplomacy's primary duties will focus on rebuilding relations with Latin America and addressing the situation with China. Issues concerning Ukraine are expected to take a back seat.

Although the decision has not been officially confirmed, American media confidently report that Donald Trump will entrust diplomacy to Marco Rubio. This would be an unprecedented move, as Rubio would become the first Latino in history to hold the position of Secretary of State.
The 54-year-old senator with Cuban roots is considered advantageous to Trump due to his tough stance against China. Rubio is one of the few American politicians banned from entering the People's Republic of China.
Ukraine ceases to be the main topic
Unfortunately, this brings more bad news for Ukraine. The war with Russia will no longer be the most pressing challenge for American diplomacy. Trump wants the conflict to conclude so that he can concentrate on what he sees as more urgent matters—confrontation with Beijing and curbing migration from South America.
Recently, Rubio has called to resolve the conflict. Although he did not declare a victory for Ukraine, he suggested that Kyiv should enter negotiations from a position of strength, and Ukrainians must feel good about the agreement reached.
According to the senator, the funds flowing from the U.S. are causing a stalemate on the front, costing thousands of lives. Ukraine's situation also largely depends on who will become the new U.S. Secretary of Defense.
Trump announced that this position would be filled by presenter Pete Hegseth, a former Afghan and Iraq war veteran known from Fox News programs. This nomination surprised even some politicians from the Republican Party, who admit they know little about the candidate for the head of the Pentagon.
