U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that the phone conversation on Wednesday between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin was extended due to the necessity of using translators.

The Russian president does not speak English, which significantly prolonged the conversation time. This information was reported by the Ukrainian Truth portal, citing the podcast The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.

While the conversation with Putin lasted over an hour, Trump also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which took about 45 minutes. Rubio emphasized that Zelensky speaks fluent English, which allows for direct communication and faster resolution of issues.

Both conversations were about pursuing peace, and Trump instructed U.S. officials to initiate negotiations on this matter.

On the same day, at the meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that Ukraine's return to pre-2014 borders is an "unrealistic" goal.
