Trump arrived at the convention a few hours after the event's official start.
Earlier, delegates accepted the 20-point Republican Party program. On social media, Trump also announced the name of his vice-presidential candidate: Senator J.D. Vance from Ohio.
When Trump entered the convention hall to cheers and applause, all attention was focused on his right ear. A large, white bandage covered a wound caused by a bullet that narrowly missed his head.
Trump did not give a speech on Monday but listened to the last few speeches from the audience, which primarily addressed economic issues.
Sitting with a bandaged ear, he was accompanied by his vice-presidential candidate, J.D. Vance, his sons, and right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson. They listened to a speech by African American rapper and influencer Amber Rose, among others.
Assassination attempt on Donald Trump
Former US President Donald Trump was shot in the ear on Saturday during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Two people were killed, including the assailant, and two others were seriously injured.
According to a CNN geolocation analysis, the former US president was approximately 130 to 160 yards away from the would-be assassin.
The Secret Service, the agency responsible for protecting the president and other dignitaries, came under fire because the roof from which the shot was fired was not secured. The building was not in a secured area, explained the Secret Service.
