Trump hints at possible support for Ukraine's coastal recovery

The President of the USA, Donald Trump, does not rule out the possibility of helping Ukraine regain some coastal areas taken by Russia. This may include the city of Mariupol. "We'll be seeing about that," he told journalists.

After meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, US President Donald Trump was questioned by a journalist about the Ukrainian territories the USA would like Kyiv to reclaim.

"There were a lot of areas that were taken," Trump said to reporters in the Oval Office.

"Yeah, we've talked about it. A lot of the sea line has been taken, and we'll be talking about that. And we're going to see if we can get it back or get a lot of it back for Ukraine, if that's possible. We'll be seeing about that," he stated.

How much of Ukraine's coastal areas has Russia taken over?

During the conflict, Russia has taken over a substantial part of Ukraine's coastal areas, particularly in the Donetsk region (including the well-known city of Mariupol, which was almost leveled due to the fighting), as well as in the Kherson region. Since 2014, Russians have also controlled Crimea, which belongs to Ukraine.

These territories were also illegally annexed by Russia through referendums in September 2022, and the international community does not recognize this annexation.
