Trump advances tariffs, sparking trade tensions with allies
On March 4, American tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada will come into effect, President Donald Trump announced Thursday on the Truth Social platform. Tariffs on these countries had been imposed some time ago, but Trump agreed to delay their implementation by a month.
On the Truth Social platform, Donald Trump announced that 25-percent tariffs on goods imported from Mexico and Canada will take effect on Tuesday, March 4. This is a significant change from earlier announcements, which indicated that the tariffs were to be effective only on April 2.
Changes in trade with China
Simultaneously with the tariffs on goods from North America, an additional 10-percent tariff on products imported from China will be implemented. This decision will also take effect on March 4, which represents an acceleration of the original timeline.
Earlier executive orders by Donald Trump from February 1 called for a one-month delay in imposing tariffs on imports from the United States' northern neighbours. As recently as Wednesday, Trump stated that these regulations would begin on April 2.
Possible further tariffs
Trump confirmed that the date of April 2 remains in place for the introduction of so-called reciprocal tariffs. Their implementation will occur the day after the appropriate analyses conducted by his administration are completed.
The matter remains ongoing, and details concerning reciprocal tariffs are still under examination. The Trump administration is also considering incorporating value-added taxes as a component of its tariff policy.
Trump targets the EU
On Wednesday, Donald Trump announced that the USA would impose 25-percent tariffs on cars and other goods imported from the European Union. Previously, Trump also announced new tariffs on steel and aluminum from the EU. - This is a big deal, the beginning of making America rich again - Trump said when signing the documents. He added, "Under the Trump administration, there will be no better place on Earth to create jobs, build factories, or grow a company."
According to the President of the USA, the European Union was created to cheat the United States.
