"The bodies of three children were recovered in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, from the rubble of a residential building that was hit by a Russian missile on Monday," reported Serhiy Lysak, the head of regional authorities, on Tuesday. The children's mother, Olena Kulig, also died in the attack.
A moving moment on Ukrainian television
Two-month-old Ulyana, two-year-old Demid, and ten-year-old Cyryl were killed in the attack. The only survivor of the Russian massacre was the husband and father, Maksym, whose image spread across Ukrainian media.
The hosts of the morning news segment on TSN television could not hold back tears as they spoke about the tragedy. - "It's a miracle that Maksym, the father, was the only one to survive from the family. What can I say..." said Ruslan Senichkin, the host whose voice broke. - "Strength to survive... it's unspeakable. Colleagues, Russians are killing. Let us honour the memory of the victims of Russian genocide against Ukrainians," he added. Ludmila Barbir, the second host, also struggled to hold back tears.
As a result of the Russian shelling carried out on Monday, five storeys of a residential block in Kryvyi Rih in southern Ukraine were destroyed. Regional authorities reported seven injured individuals.
Nearly 600 victims are children
On Tuesday, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported that since the beginning of the Russian invasion, 589 children have died and over 1,681 have been injured.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky assessed that Russia wants to prolong the war, and each similar attack undermines the credibility of any alleged attempts by the Kremlin to seek diplomatic solutions.
- "Every day, every night, Russia unleashes the same terror. The only difference is that more and more civilian targets are being attacked," he stated, adding that his country needs weaponry to defend itself from Russia and "stronger support from the world so that (later) diplomatic efforts are real and strong."
