Simple tricks to improve shoe traction for winter walks

Winter is a time when we are often forced to move on slippery surfaces. A moment of distraction is enough for such a walk to end in a fall. Fortunately, there are simple ways to improve the traction of our footwear.

Walking on icy, slippery surfaces is dangerous and can result in a painful or even hazardous fall. How can we secure the surface of our shoe soles to minimize the risk?

Stick patches to the soles of your shoes

Winter is a season where walking on icy sidewalks is challenging. Fortunately, there are many home methods to improve shoe traction. One method involves using fabric bandage patches, which can be attached to the soles. Simply stick two patches on the sole in the shape of an "X." The downside of this solution is its lack of durability. On rainy days, the patches will quickly peel off, so consider this a temporary solution for dry and frosty conditions.

Use silicone and stop slipping

Another method is to use clear silicone, typically used for bathroom sealing. Adding several silicone dots to the soles of your shoes can help create a non-slip surface. They will work like non-slip socks. This trick is much more durable and can be applied in more variable weather conditions.

A visit to the cobbler

If these methods are insufficient, it may be worth visiting a cobbler who can add rubber anti-slip pads to improve the stability and traction of the shoes.

Ready-made anti-slip solutions

When all home methods fail, it's worth turning to professional solutions. In stores, you can find anti-slip stickers and pads, which, thanks to their special surface, prevent slipping. Their advantage is that they are easy to "install" and are more durable than home solutions.
