A dessert that has gained many fans on TikTok

There are many delicious desserts that are hard to resist. Most require numerous ingredients and involve a labour-intensive recipe. However, there is a dessert that can be easily and quickly prepared at home. This culinary delight stands out for its unique appearance, exquisite taste, and, above all, its valuable nutritional benefits. The delicious dessert is called shaved fruits, and its popularity particularly soared in the summer when everyone was looking for ways to cool down. It turns out this treat is effective for a heated body. It's no surprise that numerous recipes showing step-by-step how to prepare this dessert have appeared online. Various versions of shaved fruits have taken over one of the more popular social platforms, TikTok.

TikTok is a mobile application that allows users to create short video clips and then publish them. This app is primarily used by young people worldwide, making it easy to catch up on the hottest trends quickly. There are already over 50,000 videos with the hashtag (#shavedfruits). Some of the posted videos featuring recipes for this dessert have gained several million views. The online community interested in culinary and health trends has fallen in love with this homemade treat.

Let's get to know this famous dessert better and learn what it's made of and why it has won over such a wide audience.

What are shaved fruits?

#Shavedfruits - in literal translation, it's nothing more than shaved or shaved-off fruit. It's a healthy and quick dessert idea that tastes great while also providing vitamins. It's especially recommended on hot days but also works well in the fall or spring. It's refreshing and sweet, and the dominant taste can be adjusted to your preference. Since the dessert is based on fruits, it doesn't require hard-to-find ingredients.

What do you need to make shaved fruits?

Preparing this viral treat is impressively simple. To make it, you need frozen fruit and a grater. The dessert can be enriched with other toppings. There is no shortage of various fruits in supermarkets these days; we have a wide selection from all over the world. Using seasonal fruits will undoubtedly be cheaper, but if someone desires more exotic options, purchasing them won't be difficult.

The selected fruits should be placed in the freezer for a few hours. After taking them out (make sure they're completely frozen), they should be grated. Grating strawberries, mangoes, nectarines, peaches, or watermelons will only take a few minutes, resulting in a tasty ice sorbet. Using a grater not only enhances the taste but also captivates with its beautiful appearance.

As for toppings, various types of nuts (chopped, whole, or, for example, sliced almonds) complement frozen fruits well. Coconut flakes, crushed cookies, or grated chocolate are also recommended by many TikTok users.

Experimenting with flavours and shaved fruit toppings has further increased interest in this dessert. Internet users and culinary enthusiasts have begun inventing other dessert proposals in this style. In response, many savoury dishes have been created, prepared based on grated, frozen tomatoes, for example. One of the recipes gained over 8 million views! This hit is an appetizer proposal with burrata and frozen grated tomatoes. The whole dish is drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Watermelon dessert by @alexawhatsfordinner

Watermelon is a fruit that is not only delicious but also hydrates the body well. If you're having trouble consuming enough water, you must try watermelon shaved fruits.

Ingredients:

(calculated for making two servings of dessert)

  • 1/4 large watermelon, cut into sticks and frozen
  • Juice from one lime
  • 2 teaspoons of honey
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • Basil leaves for decoration

Preparation:

Cut the watermelon into medium-sized sticks and place it in the freezer for a few hours, then take the fruit out and check if it's properly frozen. Use a fine-grater to very carefully and thoroughly shave the frozen fruit directly into small bowls. You can use a paper towel to more comfortably hold the cold fruit in your hand. Drizzle the shaved watermelon in the bowl with freshly squeezed lime juice and honey, and top it with a pinch of sea salt. For decoration, add fresh basil leaves.
