Sean Curran named Secret Service director after protecting Trump in Pennsylvania
Donald Trump appointed Sean Curran as the new director of the Secret Service. Curran, who protected Trump during the attack in Pennsylvania, has over 20 years of experience with the agency.
Donald Trump announced the nomination of Sean Curran to the position of Secret Service director. This information was shared by Donald Trump Jr. on platform X, emphasizing that Curran is a "great patriot." Curran, the former head of Trump's personal security, has more than 20 years of service in the agency.
The decision to appoint Curran comes at a challenging time for the Secret Service. The agency faced criticism following two failed assassination attempts on Trump in 2024. The first incident took place on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was slightly injured. Curran and his team quickly responded by shielding the president-elect.
During the attack, the assailant was shot by a sniper, but questions arose about the effectiveness of the protection. Experts point to communication problems between local and federal security services. The second attempt occurred on September 15 in Florida, although Trump was not injured.
Although Curran actively worked on increasing security measures for Trump, some experts have doubts about his experience in leading the Secret Service. So far, he has managed a team of about 85 people, which may not be sufficient for running such a complex organization.
