The Russians claim they dropped a Soviet FAB-1500 demolition bomb on the power plant. The video published online shows the moment of the explosion, followed by clouds of dust rising into the sky.

Russians dropped an aerial bomb

The bomb was dropped on Friday at the Kurakhove thermal power plant on the Volycha River, about 15 kilometers from Kurakhove.

Journalists from Hromadske also witnessed the shelling and recorded the moment of impact.

The FAB-1500 bomb, weighing 1,500 kilograms, is guided towards its target by a guidance system and retractable wings, allowing it to glide in the right direction. Why do the Russians use the FAB-1500? Because the damage this bomb causes is very severe.

200 to 300 meters daily. Russians advance

Earlier, the AFP agency, citing a source in the Ukrainian army, reported that the Russian army is advancing about 200 to 300 meters daily towards the town of Kurakhove in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, which is a strategic logistical hub.

An informant from the agency added that the situation is worse than in the vicinity of Pokrovsk, located about 40 kilometers north of Kurakhove.

Both towns are important logistical hubs for the Ukrainian forces and therefore remain key targets for Russian forces in Donbas.

In early August, Ukrainian forces launched an offensive in Russia's Kursk region, among other reasons, to divert Russian troops from the Donetsk front. By the end of August, the Ukrainian army reported controlling an area of 1,240 square kilometers in this region. However, in September, Ukrainian forces began to lose ground due to the Russian army's counteroffensive. On Friday, at around Eastern Time, AFP reported, citing a source in the Ukrainian army, that an area of 800 square kilometers is under its control.
